This is a natural variant of the Bourbon varietal, genetically selected for its clear fruit notes. The SL-34 varietal was carried to East Africa from Bourbon (Reunion Island) to be grown on farms in Tanzania and Kenya. Cherries ripen red. Unfortunately, the plant is prone to developing leaf rust, which doesn't affect the beverage but does affect the lifespan and cherry yield.
