The fragrance was centered around toasted sugars that had a caramelized pungency, with top notes of dried fruits, and citrus, along with a malty note. Pouring hot water on the grounds stirred up a scent of dark sugars, complex aromatic highlights, with some Pu'er-like earthy tea notes too. At City and City+ roast levels, Ngunguini offered syrupy sweetness that really supported the tangy fruit tones found in the cup. I noted that darker fruit flavors correlated to the slighly darker roast level, and would deduce that that continues into Full City, though I did not roast this coffee beyond City+. City roasts showed a nice range of tart fruit flavors that helped bring up the acidic impression. Orange flavors were tangy and sweet, and a red berry note brought to mind cranberry juice. As the coffee cooled, I honed in on some of the more aromatic flavors, like coconut water. The fruits at City+ were still on the tangy side, but with dried fruit accents, like dried tamarind and cherry. This description is from the cupping notes of our coffee importer, Sweet Maria's
