Product Description

The dry fragrance of Gatugi has a slight grape smell to it, along with brown sugars, and potent aromatics of mulling spice. Adding hot water to the grounds brings on intense sweetness of caramelized sugars, and a smell of berry syrup, as well as an accent of grape that takes on a sweet, wine-like fruit characteristic in the steam. Fruited flavors make their mark in the brewed coffee as well, and have juicy fruit flavors like pomegranate, orange, and mixed berry. The fruited profile unfolds to include hints of citrus rind and lemonade that add a pungent tangy quality to the cup profile, enhancing the acidic impression (especially at City/City+). As the coffee cools, darker fruit notes come off a little like mulled grape juice, and the spiced notes that accent this profile fade to some aromatic woody incense in the finish. With a bit more roast development, dark fruit flavors play off plump dark stone fruit notes like ripe fig and plum, immense sweetness anchoring the cup, and a faint bittersweet roast accent in the aftertaste. Fruited and bright, we enjoyed this Kenya quite a bit at both ends of our recommended roast range, making it difficult to pick a favorite!
