This lot from Jose is centered around sweetness and bittering roast tones, with restrained fruit and nut flavors adding subtle complexity to the underlying bittersweet base flavors in the cup. Aromatically, Finca Jose has an attractive mix of unprocessed sugars and hazelnut chocolate. City+ roasts present convincing burned-sugar bittersweetness in the cup, creamy nut tones like Brazil nut and hazelnut accent notes and some baking cocoa in the middle and finish. Fruited tones are on the muted side, red raisin and dried date hints accent the brew as it cools off some. Full City roasts have a semi-sweet chocolate flavor up front that veers toward dark cocoa, and subtle berry top note that makes for a delicious fruited-cocoa finish. Jose's coffee is always a pleasure to pull espresso shots with, with short, berry bright spot up front that quickly fades to bittersweet chocolate roast flavors and a super long finish.
