This is a remarkably beautiful coffee. Starting with the dry grounds, deeply sweet honey and tropical fruit scents saturate the olfactory, bolstered by convincing ripe berry, and sweet citrus accents. Adding hot water, these qualities only intensify. Top notes of fruit punch and red honey, with a blueberry pie and delicate floral hint wafting up in the steam off the break. The cup bears out the aromatics with little surprise; intense sweetness, fresh to dried fruits, and surprisingly well-defined flavors through the long finish. The fruited notes of are best characterized as pineapple punch, blueberry puree, dried mango and dark orange emerging as the coffee cools. There is a jasmine floral aroma too, with a more rose-like scent. The body is inky in middle to dark roasts, further enhancing a layered chocolate bittersweetness that comes with roast development. Baraka Buna has a surprising level of acidity for a dry processed coffee which does well to prop up this complex cup profile. It's fantastic as a brewed coffee or espresso.
