This coffee from Monte Brisas shows balanced flavors with a nuanced side that adds a bit of interest to the cup profile (especially the light roasts). A scent of caramel and dark cocoa melded well together in the dry fragrance of the City+ roast, with subtle spice accent notes. The wetted crust demonstrated cinnamon caramel sweetness, and brought out a note of hot cross cinnamon buns in the steam. The cup had a very clean profile with raw sugar notes, like demerara and sucanat. Fruits were mild, but came through with more clarity as the coffee cooled. A hint of plum added to this coffee's acidic impression, along with a note of English Breakfast tea. This coffee has a creamy texture regardless of roast level, which is bolstered quite a bit in dark roasts. My Full City roast showed syrupy dark chocolate flavors, with wisps of toffee almond, cinnamon-laced cocoa powder, and a hint of hickory smokey in the finish. This is a very approachable coffee with a little something extra in the light roasts, and well suited for dark roasted espresso as well.
